This project began with my personal sketchbook practice—a way for me to observe the world around me and a ritual that supports my mental wellbeing. Through this process, the relationship between my hometown, Dhaka, and my mental health became intertwined with the drawings I created.
During my master’s studies across three universities in three different countries, I was guided by exceptional teachers and artists who encouraged me to explore animation as an extension of my artistic voice. What started as an attempt to transform my sketchbook practice into a film gradually grew into an ongoing artistic inquiry—one that is iterative, adaptable, and constantly evolving in form.
The project is envisioned as an exploratory artistic process that ultimately culminates in a film. Its research trajectory is divided into several phases, each unfolding at different points throughout the Re:Anima master’s program. Due to the experimental nature of the work, research and development will naturally intertwine and influence one another.
During the initial research period at the School of Arts, I will focus on defining the project’s purpose, intentions, and conceptual direction. Establishing key research questions at this stage will guide both the theoretical inquiry and the practical development that follows. I will begin by gathering a wide range of references, sources, and artistic inspirations. These materials will be analyzed to build a more informed understanding of the themes and issues I aim to explore. Once this foundation is set, the research will progress into a more hands-on experimental phase, with each research question opening up different paths of exploration.
